Quinoa is an ancient South American grain that has gained popularity for its high nutritional content.

Quinoa is a healthy alternative to a starchy side dish. Toasting it brings out a subtle nutty quality. It is great with a stir-fry or as part of a composed salad.

  • Ingredients

    • 1 cup (177g) quinoa, uncooked
    • 1.5 cups water

    Equipment

    • Saucepan
    • Fine Mesh Strainer

    Instructions

    1. Rinse the quinoa in a fine-mesh strainer.
    2. Put the quinoa in a saucepan and heat on medium heat for 3 minutes. Stir while heating until the quinoa makes a quiet popping sound.
    3. Add the water and a pinch of salt (optional) and stir to combine. Cover and allow to come to a boil, then turn the heat to low. Allow to simmer for 15 minutes
    4. Remove from heat and rest for 10 minutes.
    5. Fluff with a fork and serve.
